Sush yet to get her due: David Dhawan

September 16, 2009

Sushmita Sen is a highly talented actress who has been underestimated by the film industry, says director David Dhawan dismissing reports of the two falling out.

Dhawan, who gave Sen her first commercial hit with Biwi No 1 in 1999 says that the actress has constantly been underestimated by filmmakers, who have failed to exploit her potential.

“Sushmita is a highly talented actress. But she has been underestimated and not used properly. She has still not got her due in the industry.”

“Sushmita is a great person to work with, full of warmth and joy. I actually have to thank her for doing the film because her role is not a very exciting one. I just asked her to do it and she replied ‘David, I can’t say no to you’,” said the director who is coming back to his favourite topic of marriage with the film which stars none other than his “lucky mascot”, Govinda.

Do Knot Disturb, a humorous take on marriage and infidelity, reunites the famed comic duo of Dhawan and Govinda, which has never failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Keanu Reeves has agreed to undergo a DNA test

September 4, 2009

Matrix star Keanu Reeves has agreed to undergo a DNA test after a woman claimed he’s the father of her four grown-up children.

Karen Sala, who is seeking millions in spousal and child support from the ‘Speed’ actor, filed suit against Reeves in May this year, seeking a paternity test to prove he fathered her offspring, who are all now in their mid-20s.

The actor denied he had a relationship with the Sala, and was seeking a court dismissal over the claims.

But Reeves has now finally given in to her demands to officially verify whether he is the father by undergoing a DNA test during the next few weeks.

Ranbir shoots song after grandmother’s death

September 4, 2009

Ranbir Kapoor shot for a special last-minute song in the movie Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year soon after losing his maternal grandmother.

The young actor was very close to his grandma Rajee Singh (his actress mother Neetu Singh’s mother) who lived in his house and in fact, in a room right opposite his and was constantly in and out of her favourite grandson’s space.

But the day after her death, he was dancing to choreographer Ahmed Khan’s tune.

“We had to cancel one day’s shoot because Ranbir’s ‘naani’ (grandma) passed away. But we managed in two days,” said Khan.

“Even I was surprised when Aditya Chopra approached me for a song in Rocket Singh…. Then I heard the track by Salim-Suleiman and I was blown. It’s a sure-shot hit,” said Khan who is riding high on the waves of the Dhan te nan track from Kaminey.

The song was apparently Chopra’s and not Amin’s idea.

“I’ve a five-film deal with Yash Raj, so I am at their beck and call. And if it’s a song for Ranbir, then it’s even more fun,” said Khan who has forged another durable star-choreographer bond with Ranbir after Shahid Kapoor.

Sanjay Dutt was unsure about IPL bid

September 4, 2009

Like his colleagues Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, Sanjay Dutt also wants his share of the Indian Premier League (IPL) pie. But the actor was not sure whether he would be allowed to bid for team ownership because of his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

“There’re two new teams in Ahmedabad and Nagpur coming up in December. Sanjay might buy either.”

But the actor-politician, who has been convicted under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, had a fruitful meeting with Lalit Modi, IPL chairman and commissioner.

“Sanjay’s main concern was, would he be able to buy the team because of his court cases? There are many things that he can’t do, like endorsements etc. Sanjay was assured there would be no problem. With the removal of TADA charges, Dutt now has rights equal to every other Indian citizen.

Priyanka is Extraordinary, says Shahid

August 10, 2009

Are they or aren’t they a couple? That’s a question Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor steered clear of, even as he praised his Kaminey co-star Priyanka Chopra to the skies saying she is at her “career’s best right now”.

“I always knew Priyanka was a very good actress and after working with her in Kaminey, I think she has given one of the most splendid performances of her career. I think Priyanka is at her career’s best right now,” said Shahid.

“Apart from that she is a team player and it’s great that she did this film in spite of knowing that the hero had a double role. She is a self-assured actor and very confident. She gives her best to whatever she does. I’m sure she’ll be noticed and appreciated by the audience,” he added.

Reminiscing his camaraderie with the beauty queen-turned-actress while filming the movie, he said: “It was amazing and I had a lot of fun working with her. We started our careers almost at the same time (2003).”

The 28-year-old actor was in the capital to be a part of BIG 92.7 FM’s Dilli Ka Kaminaapan Quotient contest and promote his film Kaminey at the radio station. The contest was won by 15 listeners who had to prove that they were the biggest kaminey of the city.

Releasing Friday, Kaminey has been produced and distributed by UTV Motion Pictures and written-directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Writer-turned-director Amol Gupte makes his onscreen debut in the film.

Shahid is on a chain of promotional visits and has been noticed marketing the movie alone, without the leading lady. He explained, “Me and Priyanka are doing a lot of promotions together and also individually. We recently did a press conference together in Bangalore.”

Kaminey has had its share of controversies considering a reported on-off relationship between Shahid and Priyanka. Shahid kept mum on this but insisted that such rumours added to “pressure” in a celebrity’s life and career.
